On a Scale of 1 to 10 ?

I need your help! On a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being the highest), how important is the music/worship part of the service at your church? and why?

This is difficult... maybe an 8.

I think the singing part of the worship gathering is just as important as any other element that's demanded in scripture (like communion). The question may be, "can a worship gathering take place without music?" I would answer yes. I don't think the worship of the saints stops at music. Do I think it's healthy to continue worship gatherings without music? No. Scripture is very clear that song is a major part of worship gatherings. Churches vary the frequency of their use of elements like communion... so I would think that song is something that could be varied as well and still be within the confines of biblical mandate.

I know I partly answered your question. Good blog btw, I love the questions to spark inteaction. :-)

I would go as far to say that all elements of a service are just as important as the others... If not, don't do them.
If keeping your people informed through announcements is something you don't feel necessary, don't do them. Find another way.

If you don't think musical worship is just as important as the message, fire all your musicians and just let the pastor speak and go home, or vice versa.

I've been in churches where the pastor said, "sing, play, announce, and then get out of the way." Idiot.

I would say 10, but comparatively speaking, everything should be a 10, if you're going to do it during service.

I see where you're coming from, and I really think we're on the same page, just perhaps looking at this from different perspectives. I think we'd both agree that scripture is a mandate for worship gatherings. I would however argue that scripture should be what everything else falls under. That's why I chose an "8" instead of a "10."

Open question: can announcements be worship?
